Worship Guide for 20 June 2021

Dear All,

What a lovely preparation for winter solstice we had this morning. I was heartened by your sharing of word and spirit as we gathered around the light in the warmth of community. The prayer guide and reflection are attached for those who wish to revisit or use them at home.

Below is an invitation for all women who would like to join together on Monday 5 July from 2:00 pm as we explore the wisdom of Julian of Norwich. In case some are shy and wonder what a group like this might be like, I assure you it is gentle and supportive. There are no “right” or “churchy” answers here! We will learn about Julian, engage her writings with art, music and meditative readings, and share as we wish. Last time we decorated candles. The group is a diverse group and all are welcome.

In Peace,

Christine

Newsletter for June 2021

Hello All,

Attached is a newsletter for you. It includes information about what’s happening at St. Andrew’s as well as events in the wider UCA community including a visit from Stan Grant in September and the opportunity to be part of an environmental action group.

Our worship on Sunday will have a Winter Solstice focus. We’ll ponder the wisdom of darkness and hear the invitation to rest in the love of God. I look forward to sharing this seasonal prayer with you.

Peace,

Christine

What’s Emerging? Week 2: 17 June 2021

The Iona Community featured in our worship on Sunday. Today we receive a beautiful Iona prayer inspired by Ephesians 4:7-16. The pandemic has brought our mortality to the fore in many ways. This can be a source of anxiety but it also gives us the opportunity to consider deeply where our hope lies.

In Peace,

Christine

What’s Emerging? Week 2: 15 June 2021

Hugh Mackay is an Australian social psychologist and the author of twenty-two books. His most recent book is called The Kindness Revolution: How we can restore hope, rebuild trust and inspire optimism and it is comprised of Mackay’s observations and reflections on the 2019 bushfire season and the 2020 pandemic experience.

Drawing on the universal human ties out of which Jesus lived according to last Sunday’s Gospel, Mackay writes the following.

What’s Emerging? Week 2: Monday 14 June 2021

Dear Friends,

We begin our second week of reflection on the COVID experience. Here are the links to download the worship guide and reflection from Sunday’s gathered worship.

During our sharing time in worship, we were made aware once again that many in our community are missing loved ones overseas at this time. Because of COVID, some have missed significant events, wedding celebrations, and funerals. Some may feel “homesick” in an acute way knowing they cannot travel to the land of their birth. This prayer is for them and all who feel separated from loved ones for whatever reason.

In Peace,

Christine
