Worship Resources for 22 November 2020

Dear Friends,

I hope you are all managing well during this time of lockdown. I suspect one of the harder parts is the need to isolate from family once again, especially those of you who have regular time with grandchildren. Fortunately it won’t be too long before the hard lockdown ends midnight Saturday.

Attached is a prayer guide with a simple reflection on the word embedded within it. This Sunday is Reign of Christ, bringing a conclusion to the church year. The parable from Matthew is a familiar one – the sheep and the goats. May we hear the call to meet Christ in vulnerability, limitation and poverty.

Peace to you,

Christine

Worship Resources for 15 November 2020

Dear Friends,

Besides the worship resources for this week, you’ll find a flyer attached with the various offerings and times for the Advent and Christmas seasons at St. Andrew’s. There will be hard copies available for those who attend gathered worship. Hopefully this flyer will be a warm invitation and a helpful reminder of what is on at church starting the first Sunday in Advent, 29 November. I’ll send email reminders as well so hopefully you won’t find me a pest!

A few other notices for you:

  • Feast Festival Vesper Service – Sunday 22 November at 7:30 pm, we will host a vesper service in the church with reflective music, prayers, and candle lighting bringing a gentle ending to our day. All are invited.

If you are able, please bring a plate of slice on Friday, 20 November by noon. Rather than attempting to serve tea and coffee, we will send people out with a sweet gift and your homemade treats will be appreciated.

  • Pantry Items – Between now and Christmas, you are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to gathered worship as part of your offering. As our numbers continue to grow, the pantry is in need of restocking and this is a way we can invest ourselves in the mission of love we share.
  • Offering Envelopes – Envelopes for 2021 are now available. This gives me an opportunity to encourage us to continue with our offering to God despite the change in worship practice and inability to receive the collection as part of our worship. We have been blessed to be able to remain a vital place of hospitality and practical care throughout these uncertain times. Our offerings are a symbol of our gratitude and also a way to invest in this important ministry.

I hope you have an enjoyable weekend. I look forward to seeing many of you at gathered worship tomorrow.

If you are worshipping at home, The Home Worship Guide for this Sunday is available here and the Reflection in Solitude is available here.

In peace,

Christine

Worship Resources for 8 November 2020

Dear friends,

Along with the worship resource and reflection, you will find a UnitingCare Glenelg newsletter attached. I hope you are inspired by reading about the ministry we share and will consider ways to connect with and support what is happening.

Our Church Council Chairperson, Chris Croucher, and I met this week to discuss details for Advent and Christmas worship. We are pleased to announce the following:

  • Beginning in Advent (29 November), we will include singing in a significant way as part of our gathered worship. The Season of Advent is a time of yearning and anticipation, something that music is able to facilitate well in our experience and therefore a fitting time to reintroduce it in worship.
  • Also, a quiet communion service will be offered in the church (sanctuary) each Sunday at 8:30 am. A simple liturgy will include pray-ers, scripture reading and silent reflection followed by communion gathered around the table. (We are in need of someone willing to serve as marshal at the sign in table for one or all the weeks.)
  • On Christmas Eve we will keep vigil with Mary on the footpath in front of the church once again. Worship will include gentle carols, prayer, and silence as we attend the incarnation of Christ in the midst of the bustle of the street.
  • Christmas Day worship will be at 10:00 am in the church. We anticipate the space and full voice singing will enable us to celebrate the Feast of the Incarnation with joy.

A flyer will be forthcoming with full details for Advent and Christmas. Please help us spread the word. All of the above assumes the COVID situation remains stable in South Australia, of course.

I look forward to welcoming many of you for gathered worship on Sunday morning.

The Home Worship Guide for this Sunday is available here and the Reflection in Solitude is available here.

In peace,

Christine
