Volunteering

Join a vibrant community. Give your time to a good cause. There are opportunities for everyone.

Daytime Community Care

As a volunteer, you might enjoy being part of the Community Care team. Volunteers are needed to sort and display donated food, set the community space, welcome and serve refreshments to visitors, cook soup and other meals in the kitchen, clear tables and do dishes or interview guests and distribute food in the Community Care room.

Community Care operates on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11.30 am to 2.15 pm. Volunteers are needed from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Please let us know what days and times work for you.

Evening Mary’s Kitchen Community Meal Team

Or you might wish to be part of the Mary’s Kitchen community meal. Volunteers start arriving at 5:30 pm to butter rolls, heat the food and set the tables. From 6:00 pm, volunteers serve the meal to guests, clear tables and do dishes amidst an atmosphere of conversation and laughter.

Food Preparation

If you like to cook, we are always in need of homemade soup and other goodies to serve during the day. Some volunteers drop off soup made at home while some enjoy cooking with others in the church kitchen.

Not sure what’s popular or needed? Ask UnitingCare Glenelg Co-ordinator (Interim) Lyn. (leave a message on 8295 1771 Tuesdays to Fridays and we will call back).

Homemade soup can be dropped off during opening hours Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 11:30 am to 2.15 pm or by arrangement with Lyn.

Bric a Brac by the Bay Op Shop

Sales of pre-loved donated bric-a-brac, clothes, homewares, books etc raise much needed funds for St Andrew’s community care programs. Volunteers are needed to sort and categorise as well as welcome browsers and buyers.

The op shop is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays from 11:30-2:15 pm. Volunteers are needed from around 11 am to 3 pm.

Open Church

Volunteers open wide the doors creating a welcoming space for prayer and gentle conversation in the church. No special skills or knowledge needed, just a hospitable smile and heart.

Priority days and times are Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays from 11:30-2:15 pm but can be open whenever volunteers are available. Please let us know what days and times work for you.

Bits ‘n Bobs

Volunteers are always needed to help in other ways such as collecting food from various sites as needed, tackling special maintenance or building improvement projects, assisting with technology and publicity, serving on a short-term organisational team, plus lots more!
